Summary

Experienced CAD Designer using CATIA V5 for designing tooling to facilitate the manufacture/assembly of complex aerospace components. Reverse engineering of assemblies and components may be required at times. Peer review, checking, creating mylar/flat patterns, assisting quality and special assignments as required.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to: 


  • Legacy aircraft drawing interpretation.
  • CAD modeling (CATIA V5) legacy aircraft components, assemblies and tooling.
  • Tooling design, modification and fabrication oversight.
  • Drawing creation of components, assemblies and tooling.
  • Design tooling and fixturing with minimal oversight.
  • Prioritize requirements and achieve delivery dates.
  • Create designs efficiently with minimal rework/redesign.
  • Work with various internal departments and outside suppliers to resolve manufacturing/engineering issues. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; with 5-7 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Associate degree (A.A.) in Business Administration or a related field required. 
  • Minimum of 5,000 CATIA V5 hours within the past 3 years, with wire frame surfaces a requirement.
  • Experience with engineering drawings required. 


Required Skills:

  • Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Other Abilities: Must have knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, assembly and required tooling. Must have knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing practices related to military fixed wing and rotary wing platforms. Must have knowledge to apply general use of databases/spreadsheets. Must have comprehensive understanding of CATIA V5 to create components and tooling in a 3D environment. Familiarity with ANSI/ASME drawing standards and demonstrated ability to ensure drawings meet these standards. Ability to create drawings to aid the shop floor with parts and tooling. A strong understanding of materials used in Aerospace applications, associated processing specification and associated finishing specifications. 


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit 6 to 8 hours a day. Must be able to work with their hands, arms and be extremely accurate. Must be able to walk, sit, or stand on a regular basis. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on an limited basis. 
  • Customary physical demands for an office environment. While performing the duties of this job in the production area, the employee may be regularly exposed to moving high-speed machinery and mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to machine oils, metal fillings, acetone, paints, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock or vibration when on the production floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud when on the production floor.
