Overview

Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is a leading nonprofit membership organization, research center, and publisher, with headquarters in New York, an office in Washington, DC, and programs nationwide. It is dedicated to increasing America's understanding of the world and contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy. CFR's 5,000+ members are leaders in international affairs and foreign policy. CFR also publishes Foreign Affairs, the preeminent magazine on global issues, and provides up-to-date information about the world and U.S. foreign policy on its award-winning website, CFR.org.

Position Summary

The Director of Media Relations and Strategy is charged with supporting the day-to-day management of the Council’s engagement with U.S. and international media. • Supervise management of systems and strategies to respond to media requests, develop media relationships, coordinate media interactions, track and summarize media hits, and develop and maintain targeted media lists across the team.
  • Support development of the Council’s institutional communications functions, including executive media engagement, and serve as the VP’s deputy on reputational and institutional matters, working directly with the office of the general counsel, government relations, corporate member relations, development, and others when necessary.
  • Draft and edit statements, talking points, fact sheets, Q&As and other resources with the VP.
  • Work closely with the Digital Content team on promoting Council voices, including on breaking news.
  • Manage and develop members of the team in support of the functions listed above.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.
