We are seeking a Tax Partner to lead, oversee, and manage the Tax Department, ensuring seamless operations, compliance, and continuous improvement. This key leadership role will provide strategic guidance to the tax team while overseeing tax compliance, training, deadlines, and the integration of new technologies and tax law updates. The Tax Department Partner will also be responsible for managing the software used by the department and driving efficiencies to help the department stay organized and up-to-date with industry changes.
As a Tax Department Partner, you will work closely with the Managing Partner and provide mentorship to the team, and play a critical role in the development and growth of the department’s culture, client relationships, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the Tax Department, ensuring a productive, collaborative, and well-organized work environment.
Supervise, mentor, and guide the tax staff in day-to-day operations, assisting them with technical questions and ensuring task completion.
Manage departmental workflows, ensuring all deadlines are met and the team is consistently supported.
Coordinate staffing and assignment of tasks, aligning team skills with specific project needs.
Provide constructive feedback and ongoing coaching to support professional development.
Oversee the preparation, review, and compliance of tax returns, including individual, fiduciary, corporate, partnership, and multistate returns.
Ensure the department stays current with tax law changes and relevant industry regulations.
Develop tax strategies, manage risk, and lead tax planning efforts for complex client engagements.
Review tax-related documentation, including financial statements and tax procedures, to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency.
Direct the tax department’s efforts in managing engagements and resolving any issues that may arise with clients.
Oversee the implementation and management of tax software (e.g., UltraTax CS, Checkpoint, CCH Axcess and others), ensuring the department is leveraging technology to improve efficiency.
Continuously assess and refine internal processes to optimize workflows and ensure the department stays ahead of changes in tax laws and industry practices.
Ensure that the department’s technology tools and resources are utilized effectively to support team productivity and streamline operations.
Act as a liaison between the tax department and Partners to ensure alignment on client issues, project timelines, and department goals.
Maintain consistent and open communication with clients to build and strengthen relationships.
Report on department performance, client issues, and project status to ensure timely delivery of services and maintain a positive client experience.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Required)
CPA (Required)
Minimum 10 years of experience in a CPA firm, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
Strong experience using tax and accounting software including CCH Axcess, ProFX Engagement, Thomson GoFileRoom, UltraTax and QuickBooks is preferred
Proven leadership ability to manage and inspire a tax team, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality work.
In-depth knowledge of tax laws, compliance, and planning strategies, with the ability to stay current on industry changes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on client interaction and team collaboration.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
High decision-making capability and the ability to work with moderate independence.
Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to provide positive feedback and direct teams toward success.
Ability to work independently and inspire a team to drive results through efficiency.
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, in-office from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Hybrid work options available with additional hours during busy seasons)
Ability to commute/relocate: NYC: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
This position operates as part of a US East Coast-based team, with typical working
hours aligning with EST to facilitate effective collaboration. We offer flexibility in
managing your schedule to maintain a healthy work-life balance while meeting
business needs.

offers a competitive salary range of $400K – $425K annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
