Job Description:

Job Title: Assistant Warehouse Supervisor

Department: Warehouse

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

The Assistant Supervisor applies general warehouse distribution knowledge and supervisory skills in overseeing the shift operations and workforce.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Director, Warehousing and Transportation or Warehouse Supervisor

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists Warehouse Supervisor in carrying out the shift responsibilities and administering company policies at all times.
  • Ensures that all safety, security, and sanitation standards are enforced at all times.
  • Responds to questions and issues from employees.
  • Creates a positive work atmosphere for employees.5.
  • Supervises the shift when supervisor is absent.
  • Works with and assists all warehouse employees periodically throughout the shift. Organize and plan labor usage for efficiency and cost control.
  • Monitors and follows up with all employees and those needing assistance to ensure performance and quality goals are achieved.
  • Administers progressive disciplinary action and performance reviews as required.
  • Attends supervisor meetings when scheduled.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: (These are considered occasional in nature)

  • Assists in new employee training as required.
  • Perform other job related duties and special projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work of others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems.
  • Has authority to recommend employee disciplinary and discharge actions.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects, good customer service relations, interpersonal skills and telephone etiquette and attention to detail.
  • Good verbal communication, interpersonal, supervisory, and leadership qualities. Must possess the ability to file, post, and distribute materials; copy data from one record to another; interview to obtain basic information.
  • Excellent knowledge of warehouse operations, slotting, and product knowledge.
  • This is considered light to heavy work according to the Department of Labor Weight Classifications with primary functions being light in nature.
  • Frequent to constant listening, talking, hearing, walking, standing, and handling, seeing, bending, lifting of product, dealing with and influencing people.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent; One year of warehouse distribution and supervisory experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to physically perform heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Visual requirements include vision from 20 inches or less to 20 feet or more with or without   correction, color vision, field of vision, and depth perception
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities:
  • Standing, walking, pushing, lifting, reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling and repetitive motions

Working Conditions:

The duties for this position are normally conducted in a warehouse environment. There is significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Windows based PC, printer, wireless devices, telephone, fax, copier, calculator, internet, product management software, and Microsoft Office products.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with multiple employees, other departments, sales representatives, employees at other distribution centers and retail store personnel.
