We own and operate leading entertainment and news brands, including NBC, NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC Sports, Telemundo, NBC Local Stations, Bravo, USA Network, and Peacock, our premium ad-supported streaming service. We produce and distribute premier filmed entertainment and programming through Universal Filmed Entertainment Group and Universal Studio Group, and have world-renowned theme parks and attractions through Universal Destinations & Experiences. NBCUniversal is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The Vice President of Planning will be responsible for the logistical planning of current day, next day, and future events.

Responsibilities:

  • Focus on long-term strategic planning of news coverage.
  • Develops coverage schedules and content guidelines across various platforms. 
  • Identifies and prioritizes important stories and events. 
  • Ensures ongoing stories are followed up and covered adequately. 
  • Monitor breaking news and coordinate coverage needs with MSNBC leadership and the Newsgathering Desk.
  • Generate story ideas and help plan coverage for next day;
  • Develop close relationships with show teams to synergize coverage plans with program needs.
  • Keep an extensive futures calendar on tent pole events, newsmaking opportunities and coverage opportunities.
  • Work on long-term planning assignments and special events
  • Collaborate with VP of News Gathering on short-term and long-term initiatives.

Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of experience in live television, preferably cable news
  • Demonstrated editorial judgment and sound decision making capabilities
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends), ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to work under pressure, and during breaking news

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior desk/newsgathering experience preferred
  • Prior booking experience a plus
  • Sound journalistic judgment
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work under pressure and meet multiple daily deadlines
  • This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
