POSITION SUMMARY: As the Engineering Design Manager – Control Systems, you will be responsible for leading a brand-new Engineering Services team that will be focused on all control system development activities within Production Engineering and supporting critical design cut-ins for future technology launches as they pertain to critical areas such as vehicle architecture, advanced driver assists and connected vehicle applications. Reporting to the Chief Engineering Manager of Electrical Architecture and working closely with other Engineering leadership, you will be accountable for supervision, coordination and performance of all applicable assigned Engineering design team members in support of the above objectives. You will ensure through a group of engineers, designers and specialist staff timely completion and accuracy of assigned tasks at all phases from design stage to implementation within production.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Strategize, evaluate, develop and execute innovative control system technology and architecture integration.
  • Lead control system integration and development activities to ensure new product lines are developed, validated and introduced to enhance New Flyer’s product line and assemblies.
  • Plan and executes control system integration on an assigned basis with project definition, scope of work, schedule, prototyping & validation plans, etc.
  • Plan control system work making certain all resources are being used productively to the fullest as well as all processes, and schedules are on time to meet deadlines. Establishes long- and short-term goals for all projects.
  • Review control system designs in consideration of the organization’s strategic goals and return on investment.
  • Create business plans and value propositions with regards to new and existing control system technology.
  • Work with the bids team to evaluate control system requirements in new bids, approve any new or significant technical content as well as approved equals. Interpret customer specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare data and creates reports on group status including completed and outstanding work.
  • Participate in the completion of engineering activities and documentation when necessary.
  • Participate in design reviews, Functional safety evaluations for ISO26262 and cybersecurity threat assessments.
  • Participate in hiring, training and development of new employees.
  • Establish effective communication, cooperation, and information flow with other Groups and departments.
  • Provide engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service and others as required.
  • Interact with vendors and customers on design related issues and document vendor approvals.
  • Approve Engineering Documents, Service Instructions, Shop Floor Instructions, other documents as authorized.
  • Participate in senior Engineering meetings to review departmental and company issues.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Electrical/Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of equivalent related industry/technology experience.
  • Prior experience managing an Engineering team or equivalent considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with software development, control system design principles and advanced electrical design.
  • PLC & advanced programming language knowledge.
  • Ability to train/mentor employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong written/verbal communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
