Responsibilities
This position coordinates the nursing activities between multiple service areas of a department. Provides care and/or service to neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
DIABETES AND NUTRITION EDUCATION
- Assumes 24-hour accountability for the program.
- Supervises staff, including hiring, evaluation and retention.
- In collaboration with the Department Manager, assumes responsibility for the counseling and disciplinary actions for the assigned staff.
- Works closely with Clinician to set-up orientation and to assure ongoing competency.
- Establishes daily staff assignments to ensure appropriate staffing for scheduled patients.Evaluates and adjusts staffing assignments as needed during shift.
- Coordinates daily operations: supervision of multiple classes/sessions locations. Closelymonitors the daily patient schedule and identifies and implements changes that will facilitate thetimely accommodation of educational classes/sessions.
- Prepares the monthly staffing schedules. Assumes final approval of the schedule prior to its beingposted.
- Determines the on call coverage that is required and assumes responsibility for the posting of thecall schedule, the assignment of call as needed, and any required follow-up to ensure appropriatestaffing levels.
- Serves as the communication liaison for physicians, patients, families, staff, and otherdepartments as needed.
- Assists the Department Manager with the preparation of the annual Operating and CapitalBudgets.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: DIABETES & NUTRITIONEDUCATION:1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing2. Certified Diabetes Educator3. B.S.N. degree4. Excellent oral and written communication skills5. Five years’ experience as an RN, including at least two years’ experience in adult/communityEducation
