Position Overview

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) seeks to appoint one (1) 75% Lecturer position (non-tenure track) in Japanese literature, culture, and language starting in autumn semester of the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a one-year position. 

Performance Objectives

The position will involve teaching six (6) courses. Four (4) courses will be in Japanese culture and Japanese literature for the undergraduate program and the other two (2) courses will be in Japanese language at Level 1 and Level 2 in various modes of instruction (including in-person classroom as well as in-person and distance instruction in the individualized instruction program). These courses will take place over two (2) semesters during the academic calendar (Autumn & Spring), with three (3) courses taught per semester.  The candidate is required to participate in staff meetings and discussions, in addition to teaching assigned courses, holding office hours, grading assignments, and submitting grades.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Master’s degree in Japanese literature or a related field; demonstrated excellence in teaching Japanese literature and culture; and experience teaching Japanese language courses to speakers of other languages at the college level

Department Information

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University is one of the largest programs of its kind in the United States. It offers undergraduate degrees in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language and literature. The graduate program offers the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in both Chinese and Japanese in the disciplines of literature, linguistics, and language pedagogy. DEALL's undergraduate language programs offer one of the most extensive and diverse curricula in the country. They include innovative programs such as the Individualized Track and the Intensive Track language programs. DEALL faculty also teach many courses in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean literature, linguistics, folklore, culture, and film. The mission of the Department is to advance and disseminate knowledge of the languages, literatures, and cultures of East Asia. The Department comprises faculty members whose work ranges across several areas of inquiry; three geographical and cultural regions of East Asia, namely, China, Japan, and Korea; and various periods of history.
