Research Associate (0.6 FTE)

Our Future Health is looking for a Research Associate on a part-time basis to support our growth, diversity and operational objectives using evidence-based approaches. The successful Research Associate will be working to conduct research that helps the UK’s largest ever health research programme to grow and improve. Some examples of research areas you will work on include diverse recruitment, health insights, and participant acquisition. You’ll be working within an Experimentation and Insights team, who work closely with behavioural scientists, and form part of our organisational Science function. 

Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.  

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and delivering fast turnaround research projects that inform key organisational objectives, including programme growth, diversity, health insights and operational quality. Your key responsibilities will also include:   

  • Supporting project teams, designing and overseeing surveys and experiments, being accountable for timings, maintaining quality in analysis and reporting.
  • Helping to frame and refine research questions, outcomes and success metrics for a given piece of work.
  • Designing surveys and tests and recruiting samples appropriate to address the research questions.
  • Documenting work from the design and planning stages.
  • Acquiring relevant approvals for any given test. This might include gaining internal and external ethical approval, consultation or sharing with Our Future Health advisory boards, or data protection and security.
  • Evaluate and document concluded tests in a clear and accessible way for stakeholders from many different backgrounds.
  • Present data and insights to stakeholders in a clear, concise, and actionable manner. 
  • Cultivate strong relationships with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and alignment. 
  • Manage multiple experimentation and research projects concurrently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes. 

You might be training and looking to apply and develop your skills alongside your studies, or you might be looking for a role where you can apply your skills and experience in an exciting and fast-paced research programme with part time hours. You will have some of the following skills and experience: 

  • Proven experience in planning, executing and analysing surveys and experiments, ideally in the context of health or scientific research, product development, behavioural science, or participant and patient experiences.
  • Broad knowledge of principles and methodologies for experimentation and surveys.
  • Broad understanding of principles of sampling and participant selection.
  • At least some working knowledge of statistics, especially statistical methods involved with comparing across conditions (AB tests), descriptive and predictive statistics (including regression and Chi square), sampling frameworks, sources of bias.
  • An inquisitive and analytical mind-set, excited about learning new skills and trying new things.
  • An ability to communicate evaluation, learnings and insights to technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Previous experience working in cross functional and highly collaborative team environments.
  • An ability to work independently whilst retaining high levels of communicating progress and outcomes to stakeholders. 
  • The ability to identify where input is needed and seek appropriate support.
  • Effective time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Exceptional communications skills.
  • The ability to learn new skills rapidly and adapt to changing environments.
