Director, International Patient Safety Pathways Program

Overview

The Director, International Patient Safety Pathways Program is responsible for providing support in the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on “JCI Pathways,” a road map which describes the patient safety and quality journey organizations take to advance safer patient care. . This will involve working with ministries of health and healthcare organizations, in various stage of development, to bring about nationwide improvements in the safety of health care, by creating pathways for their patient safety journey for stepwise and incremental improvements, and transformative changes leading to JCI recognition on achievement of agreed milestones.

 

Working closely with key national and international partners, the Director, JCI International Patient Safety Pathways Program will also guide and support the assessment of needs utilizing  the Patient Safety assessment tool for placing healthcare organizations on the “JCI Pathways.” The Director will work with the communications, project management, IT, Marketing, Finance teams and other key stakeholders to develop the value proposition, implementation strategies and advocacy materials for the “JCI Pathways.” The Director will develop an effective information capture system to collect data from healthcare organizations in a comprehensive and robust manner and ensure that the project achieves its key milestones in a timely manner. In order to support countries and healthcare organizations in implementation of the action plans., the Director will explore opportunities of fund-raising, support in developing fund-raising project proposals including technical and financial components, and in reporting on progress in implementation to the financial donors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting on “JCI Pathways,” which describes the patient safety and quality journey that organizations take to advance safer patient care.
  • Develop, define, and manage project goals, activities, work plans and milestones with timelines for the “JCI Pathways” initiative.
  • Develop and implement the Patient Safety assessment tool/s, aligned with the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030 and JCI standards, which will enable JCI to place healthcare organizations on the “JCI Pathways”.
  • Create and operationalize appropriate, valid, and cost-effective methods, training, and capacity building for patient safety needs assessments, development of action plans and provision of implementation support.
  • Develop fund-raising project proposals including technical and financial components and report to financial donors on progress in implementation.
  • Provide oversight of the technical assistance and implementation of action plans, as well as data management to demonstrate improvements.
  • In partnership with IT, key internal stakeholders, and subject matter experts, develop a comprehensive and robust IT / information capture system which will facilitate data collection from organizations/health care facilities seeking to understand their position on the “JCI Pathways.”
  • Undertake mapping and research of other patient safety and quality assessment tools used by NGOs or other patient safety and quality organizations and explore collaboration opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other internal stakeholders such as communications, publications, consulting, and education to align the development efforts of the “JCI Pathways” initiative with other JCR/JCI Strategic
  • Planning project teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Advanced university degree (Masters or Medicine) required, in the field of health sciences, patient safety, public health, quality of care, or healthcare systems and services management.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience at the national and international levels in the development of programs in the field of patient safety, medication safety, quality of care or public health, healthcare service or systems improvement.
  • 5 or more years of international experience working with low- and middle-income countries in developing or managing patient safety initiatives, programs, collaborations, or relations with external stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing and supporting patient safety assessments at national and healthcare organizational levels, reporting and learning systems, safety culture, education and training in patient safety, or medication safety programs, developing norms and standards for healthcare services or activities in national or international settings, and producing well-written articles or documents, requiring excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • National patient safety officer/technical officer/program manager experience preferred.
  • Experience in working with ministries of health preferred.
  • Experience in managing international networks preferred.
  • Project management/program development experience a plus.
  • Ability to travel internationally required.
