Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

I have served as a member of the DEI committee at my current organization since fall of 2020, just after the pandemic began and, perhaps more importantly, the three tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd sparked a global movement towards social justice. Until this time, my privilege allowed me to remain in the shadows as a progressive-minded, white Southerner. And it was this time in our nation's history that forced me to realize that my voice and my privilege were much needed in the fight for social justice for marginalized communities. Since then, I have been actively involved in using my voice to advocate for marginalized communities, while knowing when to step back and let them fight their battles themselves. Learning to use my voice to give a voice to those who don't have one has been a major factor in my decision to seek out job positions at organizations with these shared values.
