The Team

The Global Growth and Opportunity (GGO) division focuses on creating and scaling market-based innovations to stimulate inclusive and sustainable economic growth. We seek to catalyze sustainable transformative change in the face of inequities and market failures, to realize the potential of untapped markets, and to see the economic and social benefits of including everyone. Core areas are Agricultural Development; Digital Public Infrastructure; Global Education; Inclusive Financial Systems; Nutrition; and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. We seek solutions that are sustainable, transformative, and inclusive with an eye toward applying technology innovations as well as data evidence to inspire change in the world’s developing countries.

The Office of the President supports all aspects of the strategic and operational functioning of the GGO division and supports the division President to lead and oversee our diverse and exciting work. GGO has gone through rapid growth in recent years, currently comprising almost 200 staff and close to $1 billion in annual charitable payout.

Your Role

The Officer, Strategy and Implementation Management in the GGO Office of the President, supports division- and team-level strategy development and implementation, including related measurement, learning, and evaluation (MLE) efforts. This position will also serve as a liaison with cross-foundation strategy and MLE efforts. Within GGO, you are responsible for contributing to a team of divisional strategy support staff working to ensure that GGO has strong practices and performance in gauging strategy progress against key outcomes, researching key strategy-related topics as they emerge, and bringing innovative thinking and approaches to developing or refining strategies. You support leveraging insights to develop high-quality, engaging learning experiences for the division, and to facilitate effective cross-team collaboration. For GGO teams, you act as a key collaborator and resource to strategy, planning, and management counterparts in program teams to add capacity and value to their work. You lead and/or support the framing of program strategy and the measurement of progress against goals and indicators, as well as provide support for meetings and updates with foundation leadership that require strategic framing and content. Finally, you support and engage in foundation initiatives on impact measurement, portfolio optimization and reporting.

This role reports to the Deputy Director, Measurement, Learning, and Evaluation, Office of the President, for the Global Growth and Opportunity division.

This is a 36-month limited-term position with competitive base compensation and a generous benefits package, based in Seattle, WA. Relocation assistance is provided for domestic or international relocation to Seattle, WA if hired for this position. Our employees enjoy a flexible, hybrid work schedule, working from the office ~50% of the time.


What You'll Do

  • Continuously improve strategy design, implementation, and measurement approaches at the division- and program team-level.

  • Collaborate with program teams and partners to support their efforts around strategy design, implementation, and measurement.

  • Provide capacity and support to ensure projects aimed at answering key strategic issues are analytically grounded, account appropriately for the division’s comparative advantage and resources, and have the appropriate team member input.

  • Establish effective relationships with key collaborators both within GGO and across the organization to ensure pivotal initiatives are operationalized successfully and troubleshooting happens efficiently and effectively.

  • Design and conduct analyses in support of strategy design, implementation, and decisions.

  • Leverage research and evaluation insights to advise on portfolio improvement opportunities and respond to senior leadership requests.

  • Collaborate with peers to develop quality team learning experiences that are actionable and responsive to emerging insights and the needs of programmatic staff.

  • Facilitate effective and inclusive partner engagement to inform effective decision making.

  • Support the division to engage in foundation efforts to develop impact tracking and strategy return on investment.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge management practices and assets. 


Your Experience

  • An advanced degree or equivalent demonstrated experience.

  • Significant experience contributing to strategy and evaluation efforts for large-scale global development projects, with a preference for expertise in private/public sector partnerships, upstream research and development, and service delivery.

  • Significant experience working with partners in low- and middle-income countries, with a preference for experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. 

  • Preference for domain expertise and applied experience in one or more of GGO’s focus areas: Agriculture, Education, Nutrition, Digital Public Infrastructure, Inclusive Financial Systems, and Sanitation.

  • Experience in structured problem solving, data analysis, and interpretation.

  • Experience in decision support via effective analysis, written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Experience in maneuvering through organizational interests to successfully land complex projects. This includes building strong relationships with decision makers, handling conflicting opinions fairly, and navigating to a decision with either consensus or agreement.

  • Strong knowledge of strategy development and implementation, design of performance management system of goals, targets and monitoring.

  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, and experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools.

  • Collaborator and relationship builder. Experience working in a matrixed organization.

  • Strong facilitation skills, particularly related to programmatic and organizational learning.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to identify and communicate external and internal dynamics, as well as articulate implications for strategy, priorities, and evolution.

The salary range for this role is $140,200 to $210,200 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle, WA and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $152,800 to $229,200 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
