Position Summary

The full-time Instructor/Clinical Coordinator will work in collaboration with faculty in the associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs, as well as the allied health degree (nurse aid and phlebotomy) to coordinate all aspects of the student clinical practicum experience, and act as a liaison with clinical sites. Additional duties include teaching.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel within this classification.

  • Ensure that all clinical instructors and students fulfill the pre-placement requirements of the clinical agency (i.e. CPR, health and immunization requirements, completion of orientation modules, criminal background checks, urine drug screens, etc.)
  • Maintain a record of the above requirements for both students and course team instructors in both the associate degree nursing program, the RN to BSN Program, the nurse aide program, and the phlebotomy program.
  • Ensure that all clinical requirements are current and on file in the nursing office prior to the start of clinical rotations each semester.
  • Enter student/instructor clinical agency requirements in the appropriate institutional designated grid.
  • Attend clinical meetings with faculty and clinical agencies regarding clinical experiences as required.
  • Coordinate annual fingerprinting, criminal background checks, and drug screening requirements.
  • Provide the clinical agency unit nurse manager with the course syllabus and information, including: schedules, scope of students’ learning activities, course outcomes, learning activities, and contact information for faculty prior to the beginning of the clinical experience.
  • Act as liaison with clinical sites and agency nurse educators to facilitate positive clinical learning experiences.
  • Establish new clinical partnership sites for the nursing programs as needed.
  • Maintain current clinical agency contracts.
  • Coordinate clinical rotations in collaboration with faculty and the clinical facility. 
  • Coordinate all aspects of the clinical preceptor experience in both the ADN and RN to BSN Program.
  • Teach 3-4 contact hours/credits each semester in either the ADN, RN to BSN, or Allied Health Program.
  • Attend program faculty meetings.
  • Maintain regular office hours.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the healthcare field.

Master’s degree in nursing preferred.

Previous teaching experience preferred; two years of full-time clinical experience in the areas of teaching responsibility preferred.

Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of New Mexico or compact state; or other relevant license/certificate in a healthcare field.

Current healthcare provider CPR.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

A minimum of thirty-five hours per week split. Flexible schedule. Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen. Ability to meet institutional requirements for participation in clinical practicums.

  • Excellent demonstrated written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students, and the public.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals (students, staff, faculty, public) and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Ability to effectively provide a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Ability to address multiple learning styles in classroom teaching. Experience with a variety of teaching resources.
  • Ability to maintain clinical competence in area of teaching.
  • Good computer software skills – Microsoft Office, email and electronic calendar.
  • Ability to introduce computer technology into the classroom and laboratory and willing to explore new course delivery methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to attend to details and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to work and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Disciplined and able to maintain confidentiality.      
  • Ability to role model professional nursing behaviors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is normally performed in a classroom, clinical setting, and in an office setting.  A minimum of thirty-five hours per week as necessary to complete job duties.
  • Teaching load will be determined by programmatic needs and employee’s area of expertise
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Bargaining Unit: This classification may be covered by a collective bargaining agreement.​
