Job Description

The Clinical Resource and Education Nurse is a highly experienced registered nurse, who works with newly hired nurses through their first year in order to facilitate and evaluate learning immediately following the completion of a successful clinical orientation. They will partner to foster safe, competent practice as well as strengthen confidence in the clinical arena while building and facilitating a trusting relationship with teammates, physicians, and families.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of pediatric experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master degree in nursing or related field
  • Formal mentor
  • Formal Peer Supporter

Education

  • Graduate from accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing or higher

Certification Summary

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • BLS certification required
  • PEARS or PALS Certification required
  • Professional Nursing Certification deemed by department required upon one year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated competence in critical thinking, interpersonal, and technical skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Enthusiastic customer service skills
  • Proficiency in using and navigating technology tools such as electronic medical record, Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management System (LMS)

Job Responsibilities

Technical Skills

  • Acts as a resource for accessing policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a resource for accessing resources available on the night shift (i.e. Vascular Access).
  • Facilitates completion of the initial competencies’ checklist.
  • Responds to phone calls within 15 minutes.
  • Acts as a resource and assists with the technical training of new equipment, supplies, and instruments.
  • Serve as a super user for various processes or new equipment.
  • Maintains competence to provide and/or assist with clinical care.

Critical Thinking

  • Reviews patient assignment with new nurse to verify appropriateness and determine the plan for prioritizing patient care.
  • Facilitates open communication between the new nurse and charge nurse.
  • Serves as a resource in recognizing and responding to a deteriorating patient.
  • Debriefs with the new nurse and appropriate staff following challenging events (rapid response, codes).
  • Facilitates provider communication by utilizing SBAR and Call Decision Tree.

Interpersonal Relations

  • Personally, interacts with each new nurse at least two times per shift.
  • Provides side by side education to individuals or groups.
  • Promotes cohesive behavior among team members; actively promotes relationships with self, staff, and family.
  • Models Children’s Service Excellence behaviors.
  • Serves as a mentor.
  • Collaborates with new nurses, unit management and/or department educators to monitor employee’s progress throughout their first year.

Development (Fostering Clinical Knowledge)

  • Participates in the educational process related to the delivery of healthcare.
  • Provide applicable educational opportunities to all night shift employees.
  • Maintains own professional growth and development. (Not be required to participate in the My Nursing Career Path Program, unless required by another job code).
  • Fosters professional development of new nurses by providing constructive performance feedback through the designated documentation tool accessible to the new nurse’s unit leaders.
  • Partners with unit leadership and new nurse to develop individualized developmental plan if needed.
  • Serves as an educational resource, specific to established clinical protocols and guidelines, for new nurses.
  • Responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and revising continuing education programs for new nurses as needed.
  • Must be able to apply for continuing education credits for educational programs delivered.
  • Must serve as a role model and provide the leadership needed to implement evidence-based practice.
  • Supports and facilitates system/campus/unit-based process improvement initiatives.

  • Fosters collegial relationships between team members, other departments, and medical staff members.
  • Supports and maintains a therapeutic and professional environment.
