Software Engineer - Platform Media

Descript is an innovative company building an AI-powered platform for audio and video content creation. They seek an experienced software engineer to develop a scalable backend to power media processing and AI functionalities.

Skills

Professional backend software engineering experience (5+ years).
Experience with cloud platforms like GCP and AWS.
Knowledge of modern data storage systems such as S3, GCS, PostgreSQL, and Dynamo/Bigtable.
Proficiency in backend languages including Python, TypeScript/Node.js, and Go.
Strong system design and performance optimization skills.
Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
Solid computer science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and optimize scalable backend infrastructure for real-time media processing and AI inference.
Collaborate with Product, AI Research, and Engineering teams to meet advanced audio and video workflow needs.
Develop infrastructure for model training and evaluation.
Integrate and optimize third-party AI vendor solutions to enhance AI capabilities.
Make strategic architectural decisions balancing short-term goals and long-term scalability.
Mentor teammates and promote engineering best practices.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (implied by skills and experience).
