Role Overview

Reality capture is evolving rapidly. As the leading platform for unified reality capture, DroneDeploy is best positioned to take advantage of emerging technologies like gaussian splatting, handheld LiDAR scanning, and mobile AR. We need someone who can see beyond today's constraints and envision how these technologies should be used to create seamless experiences for our users.

Leading a team of 3D engineers, you'll bring together diverse sources of spatial data - from drone-generated maps, 360 videowalks, and LiDAR scans to BIM models and design surfaces. Your challenge is to build cohesive 3D experiences that leverage these inputs while maintaining the quality and stability our customers depend on - ultimately giving them unprecedented visibility and insight into their physical spaces.

We're looking for an engineering leader with deep 3D expertise and a vision for what makes exceptional 3D experiences. The 3D team sits at the core of DroneDeploy’s unified reality capture platform and is responsible for bringing our digital twins from drone, robot, and 360 videowalk into our customers’ hands. In this role, you'll lead the technical development of how construction, energy, and industrial professionals visualize and interact with their reality capture data - bringing together your technical leadership skills with an opinionated perspective on what makes 3D experiences truly great.

• Drive a vision for creating a best-in-class 3D experience that leverages the latest technologies in reality capture and 3D rendering
• Own the full 3D pipeline, from tile generation to client-side rendering and analysis
• Enhance the 3D viewing experience for our customers through continuous performance and quality improvements while maintaining a stable, bug-free platform
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to align technical execution with business objectives
• Research and advocate for new technologies that unlock new capabilities in our platform

• 3+ years of experience leading engineering small teams in 3D graphics, with demonstrated impact on technical direction and business outcomes
• 8+ years of experience shipping production 3D applications with a track record of delivering performant visualizations of large spatial datasets
• Experience in modern web 3D rendering technologies: Three.js, WebGL/WebGPU, and optimizing performance of rendering large data sets 
• Familiarity with 3D data formats and processing pipelines - from point clouds and meshes to emerging representations like gaussian splatting as well as BIM models
• Experience working with BIM alignment to reality capture data and client rendering
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Python, with ability to work across the stack from client rendering to backend processing

• You bring clarity to ambiguous technical challenges and rally teams around pragmatic solutions
• You're as comfortable optimizing rendering performance as you are collaborating with product managers or coaching engineers through tricky problems
• You thrive at the intersection of deep technical work and strategic thinking, knowing when to dive into the details and when to zoom out
• You’re an excellent written and verbal communicator comfortable addressing both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• You're driven by the satisfaction of shipping technology that makes a real difference for workers in the field
