SUMMARY:

The Program Associate supports the organization, coordination, and planning of the operational research (OR) portfolio of the River Blindness (RB), Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), Schistosomiasis (SCH), and Malaria (MAL) Programs.  As a member of the Epidemiology, Research, and Innovation team, the Program Associate reports directly to an Epidemiologist for the team and receives guidance on project-specific tasks that the Epidemiologists may be leading.

 

Serving as the study coordinator, the Program Associate assists with various duties, including administrative and technical assistance for field activities; liaising with Carter Center program staff, other departments, and external stakeholders; assists with program budgets, accounting, contracts, procurement, program reporting; meeting coordination; and maintaining direct communication with international offices to support activities and provide program oversight.

  • May assist with the supervision of students and contractors.
  • This Atlanta-based position requires some domestic and international travel.
  • Due to the travel requirement, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) will be required.

 

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Coordinates and manages operational aspects of a global program, including:

  • Conducting research through document review, interviews, and consultation with experts and stakeholders.
  • Analyzing factors impacting program success and documenting requirements to inform strategy.
  • Developing and monitoring work plans, objectives, and performance milestones.
  • Preparing and managing budgets, tracking expenditures, and supporting financial reporting.
  • Assisting with grant submissions, tracking deadlines, and maintaining contract deliverables.
  • Creating promotional materials, managing databases, and supporting fundraising initiatives.
  • Organizing and participating in program-related meetings, conferences, and trainings.
  • Supporting data collection, analysis, and reporting; maintaining accurate treatment and field data.
  • Drafting content for internal/external communications and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Coordinating logistics for domestic and international meetings and field projects.
  • Liaising with internal teams and external partners to share program updates and ensure collaboration.
  • May supervise staff and support procurement.
  • Maintains professional development through training and engagement with professional organizations.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

Note: This is not an administrative support position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high level of personal energy, positive attitude, and ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Public health-related experience, particularly in an international setting.
  • Familiarity with neglected tropical diseases.
  • Experience with program design, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Detailed oriented and organized.
  • Fluency in Arabic, Amharic, French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish would be an asset.

 

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines.  All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia.
