Project Overview
  • We are seeking an experienced Product Safety Consultant for a short-term advisory role to evaluate hydration system for use with a helmet in aviation for a pilot—a consumer electronic device. This critical advisement will focus on identifying safety standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mitigating potential risks to ensure successful product development and market readiness.

Duration: Short-term contract (1099) Location: Remote/Hybrid Start Date: Immediate


Scope of Deliverable:
  • Safety Requirements: Identify and analyze local, federal, and international safety standards (FAA, TSA, UL, CE, FCC).
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessments.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with battery safety (e.g., UN 38.3, IEC 62133), EMI/EMC, and other standards.
  • Testing Coordination: Recommend or oversee safety testing (drop tests, pressure changes, battery performance).
  • Documentation: Develop safety reports, testing summaries, and mitigation recommendations.
  • Advisory Support: Collaborate with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to integrate solutions.
  • Duration: Short-term contract (1099) | Location: Remote/Hybrid | Start Date: Immediate


Qualificaitons:

Experience:
  • Proven experience in product safety evaluation or compliance consulting, preferably within consumer electronics or aviation-related products.
  • Prior experience working with lithium-ion batteries, safety testing, and risk assessments.
Regulatory Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of local, federal, and international safety standards, including but not limited to: FAA, TSA, UL, CE, FCC, UN 38.3, and IEC 62133.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC standards and battery safety requirements.
Technical Skills:
  • Ability to conduct hazard analyses and risk assessments.
  • Experience coordinating or overseeing product testing protocols (e.g., drop tests, thermal performance, pressure changes).
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Product Safety, Compliance, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
Analytical and Communication Skills:
  • Strong analytical abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Exceptional report-writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical recommendations to cross-functional teams.
Consulting Experience:
  • Previous experience in a 1099 advisory capacity or as an independent consultant.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product design, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
Certifications (Preferred):
  • Certifications in product safety or compliance (e.g., Certified Product Safety Professional (CPSP), ISO Lead Auditor, or equivalent) are a plus.
