Forward Deployed Software Engineer, Robotics Visualization

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and highly adaptable Forward Deployed Engineer to join our team at Foxglove. This role is ideal for a product-minded full stack engineer who thrives in customer-facing environments and enjoys solving complex technical problems in robotics and observability. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will embed directly with strategic customers, helping to integrate and extend Foxglove’s platform while contributing upstream to our core product.

This role offers a unique blend of hands-on development, creative problem-solving, and direct collaboration with customer teams. You’ll function as an internal engineering resource for our clients, working closely with their teams to ensure Foxglove is deeply integrated into their workflows while also identifying opportunities to improve our platform based on real-world use cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Collaboration: Work closely with client teams to understand their technical challenges and business objectives.
• Full Stack Development: Build and deploy custom full-stack solutions, contributing across the stack using TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
• Integration & Optimization: Develop APIs, plugins, and glue code to seamlessly integrate Foxglove’s platform with customer environments.
• Prototyping & Implementation: Rapidly iterate on proof-of-concept solutions before scaling to production.
• Upstream Contributions: Contribute directly to Foxglove’s core platform based on customer needs and insights.
• Deployment Flexibility: Engage with customers both remotely and on-site, as needed, ensuring a fast feedback loop and effective collaboration.
• Technical Advisory: Act as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers optimize workflows and leverage Foxglove effectively.
• Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback to internal teams to enhance product capabilities and refine best practices for the Forward Deployed Engineering function.

Location

We’re a small, fully remote, global company with team members primarily in the U.S. and Australia. We maintain Pacific Time hours and hire within ±4 hours of U.S. time zones to ensure effective collaboration.

For this role, we are seeking someone based in the San Francisco Bay Area, ideally San Jose. 

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of professional experience in full stack JavaScript/TypeScript development.
• 3+ years of professional experience in Robotics or Autonomous systems 
• Strong proficiency in building and maintaining SQL-backed REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience deploying and scaling production Node.js services.
• Expertise in frontend frameworks, particularly React.
• Customer-facing engineering experience, with the ability to translate user needs into technical solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small-team environment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site customer engagements (up to 30% travel, depending on project requirements).

• For this role we offer $175,000 to $230,000 OTE
