Middle School Learning Specialist (Special Education Teacher)

We are seeking a Middle School Special Education Teacher! The Special Education Teacher will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy: to get all our scholars to and through college. The ideal candidates care deeply about children and is eager to make a positive impact.

Special Education Teacher Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification (Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6, Grades 5-9 or 7-12 or All grades)
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in an urban school setting

Position Overview:

  • Provide individualized and inclusive instruction through Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS).
  • Develop and implement personalized learning plans aligned with students’ IEPs to achieve measurable goals.
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers to meet students’ academic, social, emotional, and physical needs.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress to ensure growth and celebrate milestones.
  • Create engaging, differentiated lessons that inspire curiosity and make learning accessible for all.
  • Build strong partnerships with families, school leaders, and colleagues to support student success.
  • Maintain high expectations for student learning, behavior, and personal development—because every child can thrive.

Teacher Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday, 7:40am – 4:00pm
  • 10-month school year with optional summer opportunities for additional pay

The Special Education Teacher salary range from $71,268 - $145,714. Salaries are determined based on years of relevant experience, certification, and education level.
