Staff Backend Engineer-Data

interface.ai is a leading AI provider for banks and credit unions, offering an advanced integrated AI platform that enhances customer experiences and operational efficiencies. They are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer specialized in data-intensive systems to design and develop scalable backend services and critical components of their data platform.

Skills

Expertise in backend engineering focused on data-intensive systems.
Strong skills in Python, Go, or Java.
Experience building distributed systems and managing streaming and batch orchestration tools like Kafka, Pulsar, Airflow, Dagster, or dbt.
Knowledge of modern data architecture including data lakes, lakehouses, and warehouse-first designs.
Familiarity with cloud-native data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and storage (S3, GCS).
Understanding of schema management, versioning, metadata systems, and data governance.
Performance tuning and concurrency management for backend reliability.
Comfort with stochastic and causal reasoning frameworks and their system-level impacts.

Responsibilities

Architect multi-tenant data infrastructure supporting tenant isolation and custom ingestion pipelines.
Enable backend foundations for probabilistic and attribution-driven models alongside data scientists.
Ensure data integrity, lineage, and auditability across dynamic tenant configurations.
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services for data ingestion, pipelines, metadata, and warehousing.
Develop frameworks supporting both streaming and batch data processing paradigms.
Collaborate on architecture balancing flexibility, performance, and cost for a next-generation data platform.
Implement observability, SLAs, and fault tolerance for critical data flows.
Partner with ML and analytics teams to enable data products such as behavioral modeling and user analytics.
Build and maintain APIs, microservices, and orchestration systems exposing data pipelines as infrastructure.
Drive technical excellence via design reviews, code quality, documentation, and mentorship.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
