Gifted & Talented After School Mathematics Teacher

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. We are unique compared to other districts because of the wide variety of exciting and innovative educational options from which families and staff members can choose. In pursuit of this mission, we are seeking math teachers for our new after-school Gifted & Talented program. We are looking for individuals with deep content knowledge and expertise in mathematical practices. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator who is passionate about challenging and inspiring gifted learners, fostering a culture of critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving. 


Qualifications
  • State teaching certification (required) with a Mathematics endorsement (preferred)
  • Current Lansing School District teachers preferred
  • Proven track record of success in teaching mathematics courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire, and challenge students at an advanced level.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematical problem-solving strategies, reasoning, and proof.
  • Exceptional ability to foster intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and creativity.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, parents, and faculty.


Sample Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-level, conceptually rich mathematics instruction tailored to gifted and talented students.
  • Utilize inquiry-based, problem-solving, and discovery-driven instructional approaches to cultivate deep mathematical understanding.
  • Encourage students to engage in higher-order thinking, abstract reasoning, and mathematical modeling.
  • Foster an interactive, student-centered classroom environment that promotes collaboration and discourse. 
  • Communicate regularly with parents and administrators regarding student progress.
  • Be present for the extent of the 8-week program.


$31 - $31 an hour
Individuals selected will be paid the LSEA additional hour rate.

Hours: 3-5PM, March 31 - May 22, 2x per week (16 sessions), Days TBD
