Gifted & Talented After School Mathematics Teacher

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. In pursuit of this mission, we are seeking math teachers for our new after-school Gifted & Talented program. We are looking for individuals with deep content knowledge and expertise in mathematical practices. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator who is passionate about challenging and inspiring gifted learners, fostering a culture of critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving. 

• State teaching certification (required) with a Mathematics endorsement (preferred)
• Current Lansing School District teachers preferred
• Proven track record of success in teaching mathematics courses.
• Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire, and challenge students at an advanced level.
• Strong knowledge of mathematical problem-solving strategies, reasoning, and proof.
• Exceptional ability to foster intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and creativity.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, parents, and faculty.

• Deliver high-level, conceptually rich mathematics instruction tailored to gifted and talented students.
• Utilize inquiry-based, problem-solving, and discovery-driven instructional approaches to cultivate deep mathematical understanding.
• Encourage students to engage in higher-order thinking, abstract reasoning, and mathematical modeling.
• Foster an interactive, student-centered classroom environment that promotes collaboration and discourse. 
• Communicate regularly with parents and administrators regarding student progress.
• Be present for the extent of the 8-week program.
