Summer School Assistant - Horse Camp (Ebersole)

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. Job Description:  These staff members (2 LEA) would be responsible for attending Ebersole’s mandatory summer camp training on June 11 and one three-night camp (see details below).   Onsite staff members will be asked to assist in facilitating/leading camp sessions (all materials and training will be provided in advance).  These staff members are expected to ride the bus with students to and from camp for each session.  If you love nature and hands-on education, then this is the summer position for you.   

 

Camp Description:  During the week, students will get immersed into the world of horses. They will work hands-on with our horses, tending to their basic needs, learning horse-handling skills, grooming techniques, how to tack up a horse, and beginner riding skills. Students will be responsible for their horses throughout camp (with the support of staff) from feeding to cleaning their lots to preparing for a ride. This camp is set to focus on gaining confidence and independence while working with their equine partner.   


Training: June 11 (Mandatory Training)

Camp: July 14-17 (Overnight Camp) 

Grades: 4-6


Qualifications Required:
  • Successful experience working with students in K-12 settings;  
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality planning and engaging content delivery;   
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills;
  • Experience and/or willingness to be trained in project-based learning (PREFERRED);
  • Willingness to think creatively about content design and ways to assess student learning; 
  • Willingness to attend overnight camp at the Ebersole Center (REQUIRED); and  
  • Commitment to working closely with Ebersole director and staff.
