Senior Software Engineer - Risk, Fraud and Disputes

Marqeta is a publicly traded embedded finance company enabling innovative payment solutions. The Senior Software Engineer will contribute to scaling risk, fraud, and dispute decisioning systems through scalable, high-quality backend engineering.

Skills

Strong software development experience in Java and microservices architecture.
Experience with real-time event-based processing systems.
Familiarity with platform engineering on AWS and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Proficiency in Agile Scrum methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for architecture presentations.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, and implementation of complex distributed systems.
Maintain and enhance Marqeta’s risk engine and decisioning systems.
Develop high-quality, scalable software with a focus on minimal human toil.
Own system improvements and collaborate closely with teams.
Participate in rotational on-call pager duty as part of engineering responsibilities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree for 5+ years experience, or
Advanced degree for 3+ years experience, or
8+ years relevant experience in lieu of degree.
