As a Prototype Machinist V, you will be a vital member of the R&D organization, responsible for manufacturing prototypes and test fixtures to support the development of innovative products for treating spinal pathologies. You will provide the business with implant and instrument prototypes essential to the product design process, from concept through commercialization. In addition to hands-on fabrication, you will collaborate closely with engineering and management teams, offering manufacturing insights and advising on design for manufacturability. Your responsibilities will also include supporting day-to-day operations by ordering supplies, performing routine maintenance, and assisting in other departmental tasks as needed.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Fabricate high-precision prototype components, assemblies, and test fixtures to support R&D and operational needs.
Program, set up, and operate a variety of machining equipment to complete complex fabrication tasks efficiently.
Estimate project timelines and costs, source materials and tooling, and ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
Provide mentorship to junior technicians and support production scheduling and workflow optimization with management.
Partner with engineering teams to advise on manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
Maintain and troubleshoot Model Shop equipment and recommend new tools or machines to expand capabilities.
Monitor inventory of consumables to avoid project delays and ensure uninterrupted shop operations.
Ensure compliance with specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to innovation through development of creative solutions and prototypes aligned with business goals.

Must Have (Minimum Requirements)

Highschool diploma or equivalent, vocational or technical education or certificate required.
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience.
Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications)
Machining experience with both conventional and CNC equipment preferred
Completion of a Machinist or Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship is a plus
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a model making or prototyping environment preferred
Advanced machining skills preferred, including: 5-axis milling, 6-axis lathe, Wire EDM, Sinker EDM
Proficient in CNC programming; experience with MasterCam strongly preferred
Strong manual machining background, with proven skills in CNC machine setup and operation
Ability to create multi-axis CNC programs and make on-the-fly edits to CAM-generated code
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams
Capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely completion of projects
