Assistant Dean, Undergraduate AffairsAbout the OpportunityThe College of SocialSciences and Humanities (CSSH) combines NortheasternUniversity's signature approach to experiential learning withliberal arts education, interdisciplinary research, and communityengagement, both locally and globally.The College comprises 17 academic units, including two schools,seven departments, and eight interdisciplinary programs, as well as15 researchcenters and institutes. Guided by aStrategic Plan on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging,the College enthusiastically welcomes applications from members ofgroups underrepresented in higher education administration.Responsibilities:The Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Affairs is responsible for themanagement, oversight, and development of the two student-facingundergraduate teams in the College of Social Sciences andHumanities (CSSH) Office of Student Academic Affairs: Advising andCo-operative Education. The Assistant Dean reports to the AssociateDean for Teaching, Learning, and Experiential Education (ADTLE) andalso supports the Associate Dean in oversight of curriculum andstudent experience throughout the Northeastern network.The Directors of Advising and Cooperative Education report to theAssistant Dean. The Assistant Dean will meet regularly with theDirectors to ensure that budgeting, performance review, assignmentof job responsibilities, and other team operations and functionsare carried out fairly, effectively, and in conformity with Collegeand University expectations. The Assistant Dean will oversee thedevelopment and management of an annual budget for Student andAcademic Affairs. The Assistant Dean will also work with theDirectors to develop annual plans and goals for their areas andwill provide leadership in aligning those goals with the prioritiesof the College and University. Mentorship of team members andmaintenance of an inclusive workplace that fosters and respectsdiversity are important aspects of the role.The Assistant Dean will work with the Associate Dean on initiativesrelated to the undergraduate student experience throughoutNortheastern's campus network and partnerships. This includesfacilitating students' transition between the Boston campus andother sites, in collaboration with the Advising team; serving as anadministrative liaison to Northeastern's Global Experience Office(GEO) for programs such as Study Abroad and Dialogues ofCivilization; and administratively supporting development andprovision of undergraduate curriculum on other Northeasterncampuses.The Assistant Dean will be familiar with the general goals andstructure of the CSSH curriculum and with curriculum managementsoftware and will provide operational support for curriculumdevelopment and administration. The Assistant Dean will attendmeetings of the college's Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee(UAAC) as a non-voting member; facilitate consideration of studentconcerns, appeals, and petitions. In this role, the Assistant Deanwill work with the Associate Director of UndergraduateAdvising.The Assistant Dean will support the Associate Dean in collectingand maintaining data relevant to the undergraduate experience,including on student awards and student research; recruitment,yield, and retention; and movement throughout the network. Asnecessary, the Assistant Dean will serve as a liaison to EnrollmentManagement, the Office of Alumni Relations, Student FinancialServices, the Office of Student Life, and other units of theuniversity that support the undergraduate experience.Qualifications:The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for the mission ofhigher education and the ability to lead a forward-looking,diverse, and inclusive workplace. Excellent communication skills,both written and oral; familiarity with common office processes andapplications; strong organizational skills; and ability to workboth independently and collaboratively on multi-step tasks areessential. Knowledge and skills required for this position areusually acquired through a related Master's degree and at least 7years of experience in academic advising, curriculum support, orsimilar roles, including evidence of increasing managerialresponsibility and a record of successful implementation of goalsat the strategic as well as operational levels.Documents to Submit:Applicants should submit a resume and a cover letter thathighlights qualifications for the position and includes a diversitystatement.
