Registered Nurse Float - Per Diem - NIGHT- ICU

Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. A Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient�s needs, care plans, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures, and standards. They demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth.

Responsibilities:

 

1. Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated:

a. Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions and outcomes reflecting the patient�s physical, mental, and emotional status.

b. Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving to include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.

  1. Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration. Verbalize to patients/family/significant other the medication they are receiving. Assesses the patient prior to administering medications noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness and intervening as needed. Reassesses and documents response according to hospital policy.
  2. Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks:
    1. Maintains accountability for care delegated.
  3. Actively works to promote a culture of safety:
    1. Assesses patients for potential safety risks.
    2. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety. Initiate�s interventions related to the risk factors identified.
    3. Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peer on assigned patients at change of shift.
    4. Demonstrate quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
    5. Ensures patient hand-off as appropriate when leaving for breaks.
  4. Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant other. Plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods. Assesses and documents patient/family/significant other response to teaching.
  5. Cares for specific patient populations, despite location, as necessary.

  4. Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.

  6. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
  7. Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associate�s Level Degree (required) or Bachelor�s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  •  License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
  • Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals)
  • Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals)
  • New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only)
  • American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (*Based on Certification specialty hours of work requirement).
