Operations Engineer (Fluids)

SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars and is hiring an Operations Engineer (Fluids) to support the Falcon Precision Tube Fabrication Shop. The role focuses on production strategy, process optimization, data analysis, and cross-functional coordination to increase throughput, improve quality, and reduce cost in a high-rate manufacturing environment.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Excel for analysis and modeling
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data queries and reporting
  • Experience with Python or R for analytics and modeling
  • Experience creating dashboards and visualizations in Power BI and Grafana
  • Familiarity with process flow modeling and capacity analysis
  • Understanding of manufacturing systems (MES/ERP) and ETL concepts
  • Ability to apply lean manufacturing and production flow improvement techniques
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop tools and models to analyze delivery, capacity, and cost to inform production, supply chain, and operations decisions
  • Define and manage production strategy to mitigate risks and improve safety, quality, output, and cost
  • Create and track department-level metrics that quantify operational health and drive improvements
  • Produce data visualizations and ad-hoc reports using Grafana, Power BI, and query languages
  • Develop process flow and production system models to identify and resolve bottlenecks
  • Perform root cause analysis on operational challenges and implement solutions to meet rate targets
  • Collaborate with supply chain, engineering, operations, and planning to synchronize production activities
  • Actively develop systems and process improvements across production elements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (required)
  • Master’s degree in engineering, operations management, computer science, MIS, statistics, or similar (preferred)
