Process Engineering - Data Center Cooling

The Role

We are seeking an experienced mechanical or process engineer to contribute to the design and development of innovative products for the data center industry. Based out of our laboratory and engineering site just outside Princeton, NJ, this role focuses on identifying efficient integration opportunities for process and chemical technologies within data centers. The ideal candidate will combine strong process engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in the data center industry.

Responsibilities

  • Design innovative cooling and heat transfer systems that efficiently integrate with data center operations

  • Optimize air handling and thermal management for both cooling and carbon capture

  • Develop specifications for critical equipment including:

    • Advanced heat exchange systems

    • High-efficiency air handling units

    • Instrumentation and controls

    • System integration components

  • Design system layout and integration strategy

  • Support pilot deployment in operating data centers

  • Develop operational protocols that ensure reliable data center performance

  • Play a central role in identifying opportunities for new technologies within data centers

Skills and Experiences

  • Background in chemical, mechanical or process engineering

  • 5+ years experience in process engineering, chemical engineering, or technology demonstrations

  • 3+ years experience in data center infrastructure, cooling systems, or related field

  • A strong understanding of:

    • Data center design and engineering

    • Data center cooling options

    • Air handling and distribution

    • Heat exchange systems

    • Environmental controls

    • System integration in the data center environment

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Preferred qualifications include:

    • Prior experience developing a first-of-a-kind technology

    • Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g. gPROMS, Aspen) and/or engineering design software (e.g. AutoCAD)
