Your Career

The Production, or Site Reliability Engineering, team in SASE combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. As a Sr Manager of Cloud Engineering, you will be at the heart of SASE developer and production infrastructure to build our software delivery and site reliability (SRE) platform that empowers engineering teams to develop, deliver and operate high-quality products efficiently. We are focused on solving the hardest, most interesting challenges of developing, testing, deploying, and operating software at scale without sacrificing reliability, quality, velocity, or code health.

We are looking to build a central engineering organization that encourages innovation, diversity, and openness as we think this is important to succeed as a team. As a Senior Manager of Cloud Engineering, you will encourage collaboration, establish a culture of thinking big, and taking calculated risks in a blameless environment.
We are looking for a talented, highly motivated leader to join the core platform team in our central engineering Org a.k.a Cloud infrastructure and Platform engineering (CIPE). This team is responsible for a software delivery machine that deploys and operates our NetSec services that include SASE, CDSS and NetSec copilots. Automation is the key to meeting our demands; you will be responsible for conceiving, developing, and launching tools to support deployment, maintenance, and scale of cloud and data center infrastructure. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of global networking at Palo Alto Networks.

Your Impact

  • Support and lead engineers working on PANW central engineering platform products and services, at different layers of the stack, on challenges related to scalability, reliability, performance, and efficiency of systems
  • Understand and contribute to technical architectures, capacity plans, tooling needs, automation plans, product launch plans and create comprehensive plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges
  • Drive technical architecture discussions, even on subjects you haven't had direct experience working with
  • Develop lasting partnerships with product management, program management, network engineering, software engineering, and other related groups to build and improve our ever-growing large-scale distributed infrastructure and product environment
  • Empower engineers to develop their careers, matching their strengths with projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles
  • Help build and enrich an inclusive work environment comprised of people from diverse backgrounds and globally distributed locations
  • Assess employee performance on an ongoing basis, address under-performance, and recognize and promote performance
  • Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team including interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees
  • Balance the need to “keep things running” with allocating time to long-term and high-impact projects
  • Drive improvement of service lifecycles from inception to delivery including design, deployment, and operations

Qualifications

Your Experience 

  • 6+ years of direct management experience in a strong technology role with large scale cloud infrastructure 
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience or equivalent military experience 
  • Experience with building distributed products, systems, networking, and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience of building ephemeral environments as a service
  • Knowledge of IAC and config management frameworks such as terraform, pulumi, crossplane, ansible and saltstack
  • Experience drafting and reviewing code, strong system design skills
  • Experience with building teams and/or organizations, including hiring and managing performance
  • Experience with developing 1st level managers and organizational strategy
  • Communication and cross-collaboration experience

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Workflow engine/s such as apache airflow, uber cadence and temporal etc., React/TypeScript, Django, Shell
  • Working experience of building scalable CD systems with deeper knowledge of CD tools such as argoCD, fluxCD, jenkins and gitlab
  • Experience leading and contributing to large cross-functional projects in a global environment
  • Experience working on a global team in a matrixed environment

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $186000 - $299000/YR. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
