Apparel Product Developer (w/ a sense of humor)

At Shinesty, our mission is to force the world to take itself less seriously. We design and sell dangerously comfortable clothing using luxurious fabrics and a cheeky sense of humor. Our mothers don’t always approve of what we do, but our two million customers do. 

The Product Developer’s role is to execute on the development of exceptionally comfortable products, prioritizing quality and innovation, and ensuring an unforgettable and addicting product experience for our customers. 

We’re looking for someone who is smart, takes initiative and speaks up, is insanely organized, and wants to have an opinion and voice, personally contributing to the development of amazingly comfortable new Shinesty products. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage Product Development Process: Manage the entire product development cycle and calendar for in-line, wholesale, and S4B (Shinesty for Business) products, ensuring products are delivered on time and aligned with the product design intent.
  • Product Excellence: Compile and analyze product feedback from internal and external customers, implement improvements and promote a culture of outstanding product design and development.
  • Improve Margins: Work proactively to increase product margins from a deep understanding of construction and associated cost impacts, strategic counter-sourcing and negotiations.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage the technical design team and virtual assistant effectively, to allow time for bigger picture initiatives. 
  • Fabric & Trim R&D: Partner with the design team to identify and develop innovative fabrics and trims that align with product vision. Compile competitive market research. 
  • Factory Communication: Establish and maintain clear communication with factories and internal team regarding Bill of Materials (BOMs) and the development WIP.
  • Labels: Assist in the design and selection of trims and labels, including heat transfer labels, hangtags, etc. assuring all product labels adhere to applicable US laws and regulations. 
  • Product Design Support: Draw and update sketches as needed, design and edit labels, fill out BOMs.

Understands that every day of delayed communications yields 3 days of delay in getting our product on the sales floor. Effective project management communication with cross functional teams, ensuring deadlines are being met both internally and externally. 
  • Strategic thinking/visioning: Ensures all products coming through the design and development team adheres to business goals. 
  • High standards: understands what amazing quality products look like and what it takes to achieve and maintain this level of quality in a manufacturing environment.
  • Creative/Innovative: comes to the table with new and innovative product ideas and makes them happen 
  • High taste level: good eye for design, branding and ability to implement it into product 

Must Haves:

  • Knows what amazing quality product design and development looks like. Experience working for a company with a culture of amazing products. 
  • 6+ years of experience in apparel design and product development 
  • Experience with wovens and knits - men’s and women’s.
  • Knowledge and experience with the full product creation process from concept through production. 
  • Extensive knowledge of fit, fabric, garment construction, trims and applications. 
  • Ability to draw and edit technical sketches in illustrator. 
  • Working knowledge of technical design
  • Working knowledge of fabric and trim r&d
  • Hands on costing and negotiation experience
  • Ability to travel internationally
