Automation & Controls Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

SpaceX is pioneering the future of space exploration and broadband by deploying Starlink, the world’s largest satellite internet constellation. They seek Automation & Controls Engineers to design and develop advanced factory automation solutions for consumer electronics production, ensuring high-rate manufacturing efficiency and safety.

Skills

Strong expertise in machine design and motion system implementation
Proficiency with PLC programming, particularly Beckhoff TwinCAT structured text
Experience with electrical schematic design and safety system implementation
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP
Familiarity with CAD tools (preferably Siemens NX) and product lifecycle management
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electro-mechanical industrial systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and manage factory automation projects from ideation through operational hand-off
Architect, write, and debug maintainable PLC code for high-volume manufacturing applications
Implement ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant safety systems for robotic and manufacturing equipment
Create user-friendly HMI screens for complex machinery operation and troubleshooting
Design electrical systems compliant with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A regulations
Manage project schedules and budgets, motivating teams to achieve objectives

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science
