Automation Design Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

SpaceX is pioneering the future of space exploration and broadband connectivity through its Starlink satellite internet system. They are seeking an Automation Design Engineer to lead high-rate factory automation projects, encompassing mechanical, electrical, and software systems, to help deliver reliable internet globally.

Skills

Machine design and motion system implementation.
PLC programming and debugging, preferably Beckhoff TwinCAT.
Electrical system design and troubleshooting with knowledge of NEC, NFPA, UL508A codes.
Development of safety-compliant industrial control systems.
Proficiency with HMI, SCADA, IoT protocols (MQTT, OPC-UA).
Experience with industrial software and robotics programming (ABB preferred).
Knowledge of field bus networking protocols such as EtherCAT and Profinet.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and manage automation projects from concept to operational hand-off.
Architect, write, and debug organized and maintainable PLC code for high-volume manufacturing.
Implement safety-compliant robotic and manufacturing equipment systems per ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA standards.
Create user-friendly HMI screens for ease of machine operation and troubleshooting.
Design electrical systems adhering to NEC, NFPA, and UL508A regulations.
Develop schedules and budgets while motivating project teams.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science.
