Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink) - job 2 of 2

SpaceX is pioneering advanced broadband internet through its Starlink satellite constellation, designing and manufacturing cutting-edge hardware and software in-house. They are seeking a Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer with expertise in automation, controls, and manufacturing to lead innovative projects that optimize Starlink’s factory production systems.

Skills

PLC programming and debugging with focus on code reusability
Safety system implementation following ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA standards
Strong electrical design skills for motors, VFDs, and safety circuits
Experience with HMI, SCADA, IoT protocols and industrial networking
Mechanical design knowledge including machine design, motion systems, and CAD
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborative planning

Responsibilities

Design and manage full automation projects from concept to operational handoff within high-volume manufacturing environments
Develop, write, and debug maintainable and reusable PLC code for sophisticated automated systems
Implement safety-compliant systems for manufacturing robots, gantries, conveyors, and related equipment
Create intuitive HMI screens for easy machine operation and troubleshooting
Design electrical systems adhering to NEC, NFPA, and UL508A standards
Manage project schedules and budgets while motivating cross-functional teams

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science
