Staff Software Engineer - Applied AI

Stacklok is an AI-first company led by Kubernetes co-founder Craig McLuckie, developing an open source platform for securely connecting AI systems to real-world environments. They seek a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced AI agent platforms that transform conversational interfaces into autonomous enterprise systems.

Skills

Advanced Python development including async programming and AI/ML library optimization
Building evaluation frameworks with automated testing and human-in-the-loop assessment
Expertise in agent orchestration frameworks like LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or similar
Design of multi-agent collaboration systems with message-passing and coordination patterns
Experience with vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, and performance-cost tradeoffs
Distributed systems architecture with microservices, event-driven patterns, and state management
Cloud-native deployment skills with Kubernetes and multi-cloud platforms for high availability
Designing AI observability and monitoring including LangSmith and Langfuse tools
Understanding of enterprise security, authentication, privacy, and compliance
Open source software development experience and collaborative distributed workflow
Strong communication and collaboration across engineering, product, design, and business

Responsibilities

Design and ship AI agents, owning architecture, deployment, and optimization for multi-industry solutions
Lead technical discovery with customers to identify automation opportunities and prototype innovative agent workflows
Define architecture and enforce scalable, reliable design standards across AI systems
Collaborate with AI Research and Product teams to integrate advanced models into production applications
Build observability systems to track performance, users, and system dynamics for continuous improvement
Mentor and grow engineering talent fostering ownership and innovation
Champion AI-first engineering by leveraging AI tools to accelerate software development

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field preferred
