KAP 2025-2026 - Research Associate - Stimson Center

The Koch Associate Program (KAP) is a career accelerator for early to mid-career professionals with a drive to tackle our country’s most pressing challenges in more effective, principled ways. KAP equips associates with the tools, mindsets, and community to succeed as social entrepreneurs—individuals excited to find new and better ways to break barriers and eliminate injustice. Associates spend one day each week engaging in experiential learning with Stand Together Fellowships and work at one of our many partner organizations the rest of the week. Our curriculum is designed to supercharge your development and equip you for long-term success as you seek to have an impact on the problems that prevent people from realizing their potential.  


Reimagining US Grand Strategy Koch Associate Program Position

The Henry L. Stimson Center, a nonpartisan public policy research institute committed to finding and promoting practical and innovative solutions to national and international security challenges, seeks an energetic and creative individual to assist with the daily operations in Stimson's Reimagining US Grand Strategy Program.


The successful applicant will support the Reimagining US Grand Strategy Program in its efforts to strengthen US foreign policy by testing assumptions, reassessing conventional wisdom, and exploring innovative approaches to international engagement.

The Stimson Center’s Reimagining US Grand Strategy Program challenges conventional foreign policy thinking and questions the outdated assumptions that guide US foreign policy. In your opinion, which core assumption is most in need of scrutiny? Put another way, if you could question just one aspect of US foreign policy, or recommend a change, which one would it be? And why?


Your answer should not exceed 150 words.


Responsibilities of the Strategy Program’s Koch Associate include:
  • Conduct research to help draft the Program’s publications and support its activities.  
  • Draft correspondence and take notes at the Program’s meetings, and public and private events.
  • Provide logistical and operational support for the Program’s events and activities. 
  • Support media outreach to promote the Program’s publications and events.
  • Manage the Program’s contacts and support institutional memory.
  • Support the development of the Program, as needed, by taking part in internal discussions and by sharing innovative ideas.


Qualifications
  • A graduate student or a recent graduate from any field, with a strong interest in US foreign policy.
  • GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) scale, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proven interest in the core mission of the Stimson Center.
  • Interest in and knowledge of a range of core topics related to the Strategy Program’s themes and priorities.
  • Must possess excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Only applicants legally allowed to work in the United States will be considered.
