Welding Auditor/Tester

POSITION OVERVIEW:  

The Welder Auditor/Tester will perform the welder testing and evaluation for potential employee candidates. This position will also perform audits of TAS’s welding operations to monitor compliance with TAS’s welding procedures and practices. The welding Auditor will also assist in maintaining applicable quality logs/sheets.   

   

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

       Administer and monitor welding tests to determine eligibility of potential candidates.  

  • Visual inspection
  • Dimensional inspection
  • Guided bend testing

       Coordinate subcontracted non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, and magnetic particle testing with Welding Coordinator as required in support of welder testing.  

       Conduct daily weld audits to ensure compliance with TAS Welding Procedure requirements, using relevant testing practices.

       Assist in logging Welder Continuity records.  

       Assist in maintaining the calibration log to include auditing welding machine calibrations.  

       Document inspection results and generate reports detailing the findings and maintain records of welder qualifications and potential welder tests.  

       Maintain the testing weld consumable and parent material logs.  

       Interface with other company departments to request and receive reports and information.  

       Promote and enforce safety practices in welding operations.  

       Identify and address potential safety hazards related to welding activities.  

       Other duties assigned by the Welding Coordinator.  

   

   

   

JOB SKILLS:  

       Excellent ability to interpret welding procedure variables  

       Excellent ability to perform standard weld monitoring tests (inches per minute, interpass temp, joint geometry, etc)  

       High proficiency in welding consumable determination   

       Interpret welding compliance to AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria   

       Interpret welding compliance to various ASME acceptance criteria  

       Work well in a team environment  

       Excellent oral and written communication skills  

       Strong computer skills (ex. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Pivot tables, Sharepoint, Google Sheets).  

   

EDUCATION & TRAINING:  

       High School diploma or equivalent  

       Technical education in welding and welding principals   

       Education and/or qualification in industry standard non-destructive testing practices (VT, MT, PT, etc)  

   

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:   

       A minimum of 2 years of experience working with welding and welding standards  

       Excellent written and verbal communication skills  

       Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint  

       Technical aptitude and ability to understand basic quality concepts  

       Proven ability to operate with integrity and to handle confidential information  

       Demonstrated a high level of service and ability to be proactive  

       Ability to complete multi-step tasks and follow through to completion  

       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as part of a team.  

   

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:  

       CWI certified   

       ASNT SNT TC-1A NDE level II qualified in Visual and Magnetic Particle interpretation   

   

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 30% to 40% at a desk working with a computer and the remaining time is spent in a shop environment. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.  Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.  The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
