Staff Accountant (Grant Administration)

THA is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team. This role will focus on supporting the financial administration of grants, maintaining accurate records, assisting with month-end close activities, and providing backup for other accounting team staff. The ideal candidate is a proactive professional who thrives in a collaborative and mission-driven environment. This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 15-20 hours per week. Potential for transition to full-time within 12 to 18 months. Position is hybrid/remote; flexible scheduling options available. 

Essential Duties

Grant Budget and Expenditure Management: 

  • Track grant budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Review transaction coding and submit reclassifications as necessary 
  • Notify management of potential over- or under-spending risks. 
  • Calculate and apply indirect cost allocations to grants in alignment with approved cost rates. 

Grant Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and submit financial reports and reimbursement requests to grantors. 
  • Reconcile grant revenues and expenses to the general ledger. 
  • Maintain accurate and organized grant-related records and documentation for audits and reviews. 

Compliance and Audit Support:

  • Ensure expenses charged to grants meet allowable cost guidelines. 
  • Assist in gathering and preparing documentation for internal and external audits. 

Month-End Close Support:

  • Reconcile grant revenues and expenses to the general ledger. 
  • Assist with other account reconciliations, research variances and make necessary corrections. 
  • Contribute to financial statement preparation by providing accurate and timely data. 
  • Assist in analyzing financial data and preparing reports for management review.  
  • Process Improvements: Identify opportunities to streamline grant reporting, compliance processes, and month-end close activities. 

Compensation

Based on job duties and requirements, this position has an hourly range of $28.00 - $34.00 per hour. Initial placement will be based on hired candidate's qualifications and relevant experience. This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 15-20 hours per week. Potential for transition to full-time within 12 to 18 months. Position is hybrid/remote; flexible scheduling options available.

Education and/or Licensure – Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with an emphasis on grant administration preferred. 
  • Familiarity with government grant compliance and reporting requirements is a strong plus. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft .Excel. Experience with Sage Intacct preferred. 
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
