Engineering Manager, Customer-Facing Data Products

The New York Times is a globally recognized journalism company focused on delivering high-quality, independent news. They are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a new team focused on building real-time data products to support customer-facing solutions using event-driven architectures.

Skills

Proven experience leading data engineering teams building production data pipelines.
Expertise in real-time solutions using event-driven architectures and stream-processing frameworks.
Strong knowledge of AWS services and tools.
Understanding and experience with modern API design including REST, GraphQL, and gRPC.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Hire and develop engineering talent within the data platform team.
Oversee roadmap execution, enhancing productivity and delivery of data products.
Collaborate with product managers and partners to define product requirements and roadmaps.
Guide technical and architectural decisions for projects related to real-time data pipelines and APIs.
Monitor and report progress and risks on initiatives.
Coach engineers to maximize their impact and career growth.
Support and embody the company's journalistic mission and values.

Education

Relevant technical education or equivalent experience in engineering or computer science.
