Job Description

Reporting to the Americas Lab Director, we are looking for an Engineering Manager for our development lab in Colombia. You will be part of the Product & Development team responsible for building and maintaining our SaaS platform and services, serving customers throughout Latam. You will work with the broader technical, support and product team whilst collaborating with strategic outsourced partners and customers. You will be more focused on the end to end technical aspects of our platform.

A bit about the team and what you'll deliver...

As an engineering leader within our Product Development team, you will be at the heart of the business collaboratively responsible for leading the engineering team in Colombia. You will work with various stakeholders, whilst driving the engineering teams to work through the technology components that build out the platform, inline with customer needs.

Reporting to our Chief Product Development Officer, we are looking for a individual with demonstrable engineering, technical and operational leadership experience in on-prem and cloud based services.

As an Engineering Manager you will:

  • Build and maintain an engineering strategy that augments our product strategy, and furthers the platform technology strategy
  • Create an inspiring work environment and drive for engineering excellence
  • Participate in our product, design  and engineering leadership team to ensure engineering initiatives are appropriately represented in planning and in product roadmaps
  • Ensure that the performance of all engineering teams is actively measured and monitored, and identify and resolve impediments as quickly as possible
  • Grow your teams by ensuring the right training and tooling is available to teams to balance working styles, experience, capability and career aspirations
  • Lead your direct reports and enable them to thrive in the organisation, support them in their career development and goals
  • Collaborate with your peers in other areas to share knowledge and work on common initiatives

Who you are...

As an Engineering Manager you will have:

  • Hands on experience with development, problem solving working with customers, and understand how to build cloud platforms
  • A desire to work in a fast pace environment, charting uncharted domains, and be able to own the direction, and drive engineering teams towards clear outcomes
  • Architecture, Oracle and Cloud (AWS & or/Azure) technical experience, and understand how to build SaaS platforms
  • A deep understanding of product delivery and mobile network operators
  • A passion for software engineering excellence and enabling teams to succeed in their endeavours
  • Experience with managing teams of people in product or technology companies 
  • A growth mindset, you understand that competency is not fixed but is enhanced through dedication and hard work
  • An ability to build trust and credibility with stakeholders across all levels of the business
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and change and an ability to bring clarity for the people you lead
  • Defined technical solution standards and guardrails for development teams
  • Served as a technical platform expert providing input/ guidance
  • Defined technical requirements (scalability, availability, maintenance, security). Architecting, designing, coding and deploying full-scale systems based on critical business outcomes, communicating architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies, while also highlighting short-term trade-offs vs. long-term commitments
  • Promoted a positive work environment; selecting and training new team members; continuously providing feedback, mentoring, and coaching to inspire a high-performing team of principal engineers who are empowered to develop a technology architecture that enables and drives new business capabilities and operating models
  • Collaborated with peers to analyse business context (business strategy and trends), as well as changing requirements in other architecture viewpoints to distil the technology architecture future state
  • Been responsible for the analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement. In addition, own the analysis of technology industry and market trends to resolve their potential impact on the enterprise as well as on the enterprise technology architecture
  • Assisted with crafting the governance, assurance and standards activities associated with ensuring enterprise technology architecture compliance
  • Lead or consulted on all aspects of technology and architecture implementation and modification activities, particularly for new or shared infrastructure solutions. Lead or consult on application or infrastructure development projects.

What make you, you...

Experience:

  • 7+ years of software engineering and technology management experience with a minimum of 3+ years in a engineering leadership role architecture and decision making.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate software engineering concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Demonstrated history of hiring, developing, retaining and upgrading technical talent including the management of globally distributed teams.
  • Experience with integrating with partner solutions and acquired technologies.
  • Experienced at modernising legacy systems including the technical and change management aspects that accompany transformative change.
  • Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high-stress situations.
  • Must be a critical thinker, with strong problem-solving skills, project management skills: financial/budget management, scheduling, and resource management.
  • A strong solution orientation with a penchant for not only identifying problems but also finding ways of solving them within typical business constraints.
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve strategic goals.
  • Ability to professionally handle confidential matters and show an appropriate level of judgment and maturity.
  • High degree of initiative and ability to work with little supervision.

Languages:

  • Must be fluent English and Spanish

Knowledge:

  • Azure, Oracle, AWS development environment and cloud platforms eco-systems
  • Awareness of security platforms
  • Software development lifecycle (SDLC) and other critical tools/systems
  • Android, mobile OEMS and cloud platforms

Desirable skills: 

  • use of JIRA and other engineering tools

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience
