Director, Live Events

First, the myth – Gen Z grew up so addicted to their phones that they don’t socialize in-person. Fact is Gen Z seeks IRL. At Unwell, we’ve proven that the key to engaging Gen Z offline is creating environments that inspire real connections and community. 

Unwell is seeking an entrepreneurial Live Events Lead who can strategically establish an experiential line of business while also ensuring the creative and financial success of individual activations. This Los Angeles-based lead will be responsible for Unwell’s IRL events; including annual planning, P&L management, innovative programming, best-in-class operations and post-mortem analysis.

The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding and passion for pop culture and understands the inherent connection between in-person events and social media content creation. 

What You’ll Do

  • Create Unforgettable Experiences: Design compelling, profitable, and repeatable Gen Z-focused events that expand the Unwell lifestyle into new verticals, creative spaces, and regions.

  • Drive Strategy and Results: Develop, pitch, and manage P&L for individual events and the annual slate, ensuring all goals are met.

  • Innovate IRL: Collaborate with production companies and fabrication studios to deliver premium experiences that redefine the possibilities of in-person events.

  • Plan Ahead: Own and maintain Unwell’s Live Event calendar, projecting a minimum one-year roadmap of exciting activations.

  • Build Partnerships: Identify co-branded opportunities and support the live events sales cycle.

  • Lead With Excellence: Serve as the go-to expert and primary point of contact for all live event-related opportunities and challenges.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experienced Pro: 8+ years in event management within entertainment, sports, or branded content settings, with 5+ years leading regional live event slates.

  • Cultural Innovator: A deep passion for pop culture and a proven track record of creating iconic moments that inspire community engagement.

  • Hands-On Leader: Expertise in developing and managing live event slates, with strong cross-functional collaboration and relationship-building skills.

  • Strategic Communicator: Comfortable engaging with C-suite executives, talent, sponsors, and—most importantly—our community.

  • Visionary Planner: Able to think ahead, manage complexity, and maintain an up-to-date, forward-thinking event calendar.

  • Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.
