Principal Infrastructure Engineer

Vast is advancing space exploration by building commercial space stations with artificial gravity. They seek a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to develop and maintain cutting-edge IT infrastructure supporting mission operations with a focus on speed, security, and usability.

Skills

Experience with Linux and Kubernetes systems.
Knowledge of Locus Linux.
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code practices and Git workflows such as Terraform, Flux, and Kustomize.
Proficiency in scripting languages like Go, Python, and Bash.
Understanding of networking fundamentals including IPAM, VLANs, DHCP, and DNS.
Working knowledge of storage technologies such as block storage, object storage, NFS, and RAID.
Strong ownership mindset with willingness to engage in low-level hardware and provisioning troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

Support provisioning and deployment of Kubernetes clusters on bare metal servers.
Build and maintain bare metal provisioning tooling including DHCP, DNS, PXE/iPXE/HTTPBoot, and Linux Machine Configuration.
Develop and maintain automation scripts and services in Go, Python, and Bash.
Collaborate with data center operations and networking teams for hardware configuration and readiness.
Manage infrastructure as code using Git, Flux, and Terraform.
Create and maintain system documentation, runbooks, and tooling to ensure reliability and repeatability.
