Systems Test Engineer - Low Voltage, High Voltage, and Telematics Systems

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who'll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Systems Test Engineering Manager.

You will:

  • Own and develop strategy for Verification and Validation of Vehicle Systems  for new and existing autonomous vehicle platforms. This includes, among other domains, Power Systems, Networks, Telematics, and Cybersecurity.
  • Coordinate, and supervise the verification activities for these domains (reviewing Requirements, designing Tests, and getting them executed).
  • Drive alignment and test planning activities with both internal and external OEM partners to ensure efficient and effective collaboration across Waymo.
  • Provide technical support to Test Engineers and Test Conductors during the execution of the verification activities.
  • Become the point of contact and be accountable for the tests requested from Systems Engineers or Developers to test new features or detect regressions for existing ones.
  • Develop and execute on test automation strategy for verification corpus which effectively utilizes Waymo's suite of test environments from software-in-loop simulation to component HILs to full vehicle HILs.

You have:

  • Expertise in testing Power Electronics, High and Low Voltage Electrical Systems, Telematics, and Wireless communication systems.
  • Test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability in testing, troubleshooting, or debugging air/ground/space electrical systems.
  • Experience with power test equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, power loads, programmable power supplies, etc.) and Data Acquisition (DAQ) test equipment (Vector CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe and Etas INCA, MDA etc.).
  • Data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink).
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, which can include a Bachelor and/or Master's degree in an engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, etc.).

We prefer:

  • Electromechanical systems: design, build, and troubleshoot systems that combine HW, electrical systems, communications, and software.
  • Understanding of autonomous driving vehicles, infrastructure, and operations.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation methods.
  • Database analysis in SQL or similar.
  • Experience with Linux or Unix based systems
