AWS Database Administrator

We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our team and play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing database systems hosted on AWS. This position supports the infrastructure behind our technology-driven applications in healthcare and beyond, with a strong focus on high availability, performance, scalability, and security.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL database instances on AWS, ensuring optimal performance and high availability.
• Manage AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, including provisioning, performance tuning, version upgrades, and maintenance.
• Configure and oversee robust database backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies.
• Monitor database performance using AWS tools and make necessary adjustments to enhance speed and reduce costs.
• Conduct security reviews and apply updates to maintain compliance with industry standards and protect against vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to refine database schema, optimize queries, and create efficient indexing strategies.
• Leverage AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and CLI for effective database operations.
• Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages like Python or Bash to improve system reliability and efficiency.
• Provide expert guidance to development teams on best practices for database usage, query optimization, and data governance.
• Stay current with advancements in database technologies and AWS offerings including Redshift and Aurora to continuously enhance system capabilities.

Requirements:

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, including architecture design and performance tuning on AWS.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including RDS, Redshift, Aurora, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and AWS CLI.
• In-depth knowledge of database security, data integrity, and disaster recovery best practices.
• Proficiency in scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Bash).
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals such as DHCP, DNS, and load balancing.
• Ability to document technical processes, configurations, and architecture clearly and effectively.
• Proven success working with cross-functional teams to support scalable application development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in database administration with a focus on PostgreSQL in cloud-based environments, especially AWS.
