Backend Software Engineer, Monetization

xAI is a technology company dedicated to building AI systems that understand the universe to support humanity’s pursuit of knowledge. They seek a highly skilled backend software engineer for their Monetization Team to develop scalable subscription and monetization infrastructure powering millions of users and creators on a major platform.

Skills

Proficiency in backend or systems engineering with at least 5 years of experience on high-scale platforms.
Expertise in designing and maintaining large distributed systems with high concurrency and fault tolerance.
Strong communication skills to clearly articulate complex technical concepts.
Experience or knowledge of payments infrastructure, subscription platforms, or creator monetization systems is a plus.
Familiarity with growth engineering, user acquisition, or retention systems is highly desirable.
Experience with programming languages such as Scala, Python, or Golang and infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

Design and build scalable subscriptions infrastructure handling payments and SKUs across platforms.
Develop growth systems to acquire, activate, and retain users to maximize revenue.
Create innovative monetized products that drive subscription adoption and user engagement.
Build systems and algorithms enabling creators to monetize high-quality content effectively.
Lead technical architecture decisions ensuring scalability, reliability, and low latency.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and compliance teams for end-to-end system delivery.
Maintain engineering excellence with rigorous testing, monitoring, and continuous deployment.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
