Principal Software Engineer (Rust, Networking)

Zscaler is a global leader in cloud security, serving thousands of enterprise customers including 45% of the Fortune 500. They seek a Principal Software Engineer experienced in Rust and networking to join their platform convergence team to build low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems within a hybrid work model.

Skills

Extensive experience coding with Rust, especially async frameworks like Tokio or async-std.
Expertise in building resilient, observable, horizontally scalable distributed systems.
Strong understanding of Linux fundamentals including networking, namespaces, sockets, kernel-user space interaction.
Hands-on experience with gRPC, Protobufs, service-oriented architectures, and L2–L4 networking protocols.
Proficiency with container environments, Git, CI/CD workflows, and performance instrumentation.

Responsibilities

Design and build a low-latency, high-throughput data forwarding plane using Rust and async/await models.
Develop distributed, scalable systems focusing on concurrency, fault tolerance, and messaging.
Implement and maintain gRPC-based APIs and services integrating forwarding plane with control layers.
Optimize system performance through kernel-space and user-space profiling tools.
Participate in code reviews, system design discussions, documentation, and mentor junior engineers.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (implied).
