"get a real job" but what does that even mean?

@Target been working almost 16 years, and today was the first time someone actually said that to my face.

i work at a supermarket. most people just see me at the register or stocking shelves, but there's so much more to it. i unload deliveries, lift heavy boxes, mop up spills, deal with weirdos, and somehow stay patient through all of it.

so when someone throws out “get a REAL job,” i just kinda blink. what do they think is REAL? an office? a startup? something they can brag about at brunch?

cause idk man… i get a paycheck. it pays my RENT. bought my car. keeps me fed. it’s not glamorous, but it’s work. it’s consistent. it’s real.

maybe what they mean is “get a job that makes ME feel better about YOUR life.” cool, thanks, i’ll stick with the one that pays my bills.
