I live in east coast, I picked up a few Instacart runs—some days were okay, especially in nicer suburbs, but other days were just dead. I also tried UserTesting and made around $30 my first week. Not life-changing, but it helped cover groceries.
What really helped was posting in a local Facebook group offering to help with errands or small tasks. Ended up cleaning someone’s porch for $25 and walking their dog while they were out of town.
None of it’s stable or amazing pay, but it was enough to keep me from going broke while I kept sending out resumes. It's messy, but it works it for now.
i got laid off back in march and tbh job apps were going nowhere. so i just started walking around my neighborhood asking ppl if they needed help with random stuff—cleaning trash bins, quick car wash, dog poop pick up, small yard stuff (if they had the tools lol), etc.
sounds dumb but like… people actually said yes. most of them hate doing that stuff and just never get around to it.
i printed like 10 flyers w/ rough prices and just started handing them out. didn’t go inside houses, just stayed polite, offered to do stuff on the spot if they were down.
1st day I made $90 cash and someone booked me for the weekend to scrub their patio furniture??
no it’s not a business. but if you’re broke and tired of $0.30 surveys or fighting for Upwork scraps, this got me through a rough week.
im decent at Canva and copywriting. So I started offering “free” social media templates in local FB groups in exchange for testimonials. that’s how I built a mini-portfolio and used it to land 2 paid gigs (one turned into a $500/mo retainer). No Upwork middleman no begging for 5-star reviews
Got laid off a month ago. Thought I’d be clever and use the time to build a side hustle.
Tried Etsy (real art, not AI spam). No traction.
Upwork? It's so hard to start
Surveys? Lol. $0.50 for an hour of my life.
Tiktok I have a small following. Doesn’t help me sell affiliates.
Now I’m out here job hunting like it’s a full-time job itself and getting ghosted left and right
Anyone got actual ideas that don’t require scamming people or already having a massive following?
