Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer for our Virginia Beach, Virginia office.

This position is expected to begin immediately.

As an Entry-Level Structural Engineer you will work with project teams in developing a range of engineering solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation and support roles during the construction phase. This is a diverse role that will involve your contribution and insight to the effective delivery of its current and future portfolio of projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing bridge design utilizing hand calculations, Excel workbooks, and advanced structural analysis software to determine applied loading, demand requirements, and appropriate foundation and member specifications under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Preparing technical sketches, drawings, specifications and reports under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Assisting with inspection of existing bridges, tunnels, and other structures.
  • Coordinating with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed.
  • Performing condition assessments and site visits as needed. Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Master of Science (with Structural Engineering concentration).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO Codes and Bridge Engineering practices.
  • Structural problem analysis skills (including knowledge/use of design and calculation tools, software).
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenBridge, or  AutoCAD.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with clients in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Available for periodic travel.
  • Relevant intern/coop/work experience.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Virginia Beach, VA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Virginia Beach, VA on a scheduled basis.
