About the role

The Engineering Lead, Web role is a people leader role that is responsible for technical strategy, design, roadmap, development and maintenance of digital technology capabilities for AGL’s My Account web portal and applications. This involves providing technical thought leadership and direction for a portfolio of digital assets, working in conjunction with Delivery Managers and scrum teams to manage the overall build and run of digital services and solutions, on time, within budget, meeting business requirements and in compliance with relevant development standards.

This will be a 24 month maximum-term role, based in Melbourne.

What you’ll be doing

Lead and define the vision and roadmap for the Web applications engineering capability.
Provide best practice engineering though leadership to the CMT engineering community, keeping abreast of new technologies and development techniques, tools and trends.
Along with peers in other technical domains, drive the re-use of architectural components across the technology stack.
Create and instil engineering standards, patterns, guardrails & practices within the Identity domain, ensuring adherence whilst fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Provide / Build the tools to be able to tangibly demonstrate this capability.
Drive standardisation and maximise reuse of web components through technical contribution to, advocacy of, and continuous improvement of the Design Language System, working in collaboration with peer Engineering Leads, Experience Design teams and Delivery teams.
Run the Web Applications guild across AGL, driving interest and continual contribution.
Work with DevOps and delivery teams to Define, Own and Operate the Continuous Development / Continuous Integration pipeline for Web app development.
Management function to ensure deployments occur seamlessly whilst many teams develop within the same codebase.
Working with internal business teams and third-party vendors, explore and develop new digital capabilities to support AGL’s growth in a digital environment.
Support cross-cutting issues and identification of production problems, finding the appropriate team to resolve.
Upskill Scrum Teams in Web Application engineering across Planning/Architecture, Development, DevOps and Testing.
Formulate business cases / funding requests to enact on Web Application Engineering uplift.

What you’ll bring

5+ years development experience across a range of web technologies and frameworks
Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or similar discipline
3+ years’ experience working in a mature CI/CD environment
Strong leadership experience, including the ability to pitch technology solutions to various stakeholder groups
A passion for new technologies and how these could be leveraged to enable strategic outcomes and solve complex business problems
A strong understanding of core technical requirements and standards
Exceptional influencing skills and ability to drive cultural change
